FurryMUCK Visitor's Center

I'm still in the process of hypertexting this document. Until I'm done, here's the flat ASCII version. -- Telzey

1) General Information
This "Visitors' Center" is set up to cover information of interest to
newcomers to FurryMUCK. For further information, you may want to check out
the Library on Cougar Boulevard (west from here). For a list of global
actions/commands available, type "globals". For information on programs,
type "programs".
If you have any comments on how this board may be improved, or any questions,
please leave page #mail to Greywolf or email him at
peacoct6503@cobra.uni.edu.
Some assorted help files are available at the avatar.snc.edu ftp site, in the
pub/furry/utilities/muck directory.  These include Beginners-Guide.txt,
Building-Guide.txt, Gen-Desc.txt and MUFTutorial.txt. You can download them
from there, or else contact Greywolf via email (NOT page #mail -- He needs
your address to send the files to you).
Done.

2) Note For Newcomers
@set me=j     {This allows you to utilize various programs on the MUCK.}
@set me=!k    {This is so that you can't get "killed".  =)  }
hand #ok         {This allows objects to be handed to you.}
@set me=_scent:{whatever you smell like}
@set me=_smell_notify:%n smelled you. {optional -- lets you know if somebody
smelled you!  =)  }
@set me=gender:{your sex, either male, female or neuter} {also, be sure to
set the following property, too, as some programs use "gender", while others
check for "sex" -- program inconsistency.  =P  }
@set me=sex:{your sex, either male, female or neuter}
@set me=_remote_look?:yes {allows others to use the "lookat" command to
look at descriptions of objects that you are carrying}
@set me=species:{your species} {When others use the "whospe" command, this
setting will be reported as your "species". Purely optional, for informative
purposes.}
  {continued -- type "read 3" for rest of note}
Done.
3) Newcomers, Continued
To use message boards in West Corner of the Park and elsewhere, type "read"
to see a listing of entires, or "read {entry#}" to read a particular entry.
On East Cougar Boulevard is the Anastasia Katerina Romanov Public Library,
which houses information on various programs of interest. To get there from
here, first go out (to WCotP), then: w, s, e.
.
Note -- I am *not* a wizard ... just a MUFer and a compiler of information
concerning various MUF programs. I'm *not* an authority. (Lynx, the MUF
wizard, fills those shoes. =) Well, he doesn't *wear* shoes, but that's a
technicality!  =)  )
Done.

4) Places to Visit
* West Corner of the Park (WcotP) is pretty much the central location, and
used as a reference from which most directions to the places listed here are
given.
* On the streets of Furry, "stepdiscs" provide some "shortcuts", which can be
utilized by (usually) typing "nn", "ee", "ss" or "ww" in the appropriate
room.
* "Taxi Stands" can be found in some areas: To use them, type "taxi", and
then look over the sign inside the taxi, which shows possible destinations.
Type the appropriate destination name and you will be taken there.
----- The following some places of note, directions from WCotP appearing in
brackets [] -----
* Underground Nexus [un]. Central area of the underground realm. In the
library (and other areas using Greywolf's environment rooms), you can type
"nex" as a shortcut to this location.
* Anastasia Katerina Romanov Public Library [from here: w] -- a storehouse of
information, mostly concerning the use of various programs of interest.
* Rose Cafe [n, n, w] -- Popular social spot
* The Sky [u] -- If you are flight-capable (@set me=_flight?:yes), the sky
provides access to several places of interest (such as ToonTown, Wolf Run
Road, Sasta's Houseboat Adventure...)
* Club Aero/Larson Airfield [from here: shuttle, shuttle] -- Greywolf's
favorite hangout =) and a testing ground for experimental programs.
* Town Hall [s, s, s, w] -- A walk-through tutorial on building techniques.
* FurryMUCK Bank [s, s, s, s, w] -- You can "withdraw" pennies here.
* Uriel's Tower [un, se] -- A gargantuan place to explore
* Mecha Arena [from here: shuttle] -- Gaming area for war machines!
* Adventureland [from here: shuttle, shuttle, shuttle] -- Branching point for
various adventure games!
Done.

5) Furry Fanzine Listing (zines)
The following are a few furry fanzine addresses that I happen to have handy,
along with whatever pertinent information I have. My inclusion (or
exclusion) of a publication does not indicate any judgement of its merit,
merely my own arbitrary choices.
* Bestiary, c/o Scott Alston, 5137 Catherine St., Philadelphia, PA 19143.
PG-13/R-rated furry art 'zine. Mostly figure illos, tending toward pinups,
with a few comic-format stories. Published quarterly. Alston is pretty good
about quick correspondance. Frequently has "theme issues" (examples: Sci-Fi
Issue, All-Male Issue, All-Raccoon Issue ...)
* Dallas Brawl, c/o Mel. White, 5338 Heather Glen, Garland, TX 75043. APA
spinoff of the "Bizarre Wars", though somewhat nicer. Contributors trade
"zingers" against others' characters.
YARF!, P.O. Box 1200, Cupertino, CA  95015-1200.  PG-13/R-rated general-
interest furry 'zine, with stories, news, art and comic-format stories.
Editor Kris Kreutzman is on the 'net, at: krisk@apple.com.
Furrlough, c/o Shon Howell, 11726 West Ave., Apt. G-1, San Antonio, TX 78216.
 Military-oriented furry fanzine, mostly comic-format stories with some
illos.  PG/PG-13/R-rated.  Pay for submissions.
* Zoomorphica, Wyvern's Den Page Studio, P.O. Box 292513, Temple Terrace, FL
33687-2513. Text story-oriented furry fanzine. Contact Mika for further
information.
.... For a more up-to-date and complete listing, send email to Greywolf at
peacoct6503@cobra.uni.edu and request the "Zines" file. Otherwise, it can be
found in the pub/furry/utilities/misc directory on the Avatar.snc.edu ftp
site.
Done.

6) Obtaining a Home
At this point, I don't have the official word on what information to include
here. However, if you are a newcomer, you can acquire a temporary home by
going to the Dancing Unicorn Inn (from WCotP: w, s, w) and typing: "@link
me=here".
If you'd like to find some nice places to build a home, just go west into the
Tugrik Wing of the Library, and there's a post board covering different
places to live.
Done.

7) Adventure Sites!
Are you fond of puzzles to solve, places to explore, treasure to find? Well,
check out Adventureland! Just take the shuttle bus (shuttle, shuttle,
shuttle -- That's 3 stops. =) ) and check out the bulletin there which lists
the currently available quests you can find from that point.
Done.
